Community Involvement

SoSafe strongly believes in people power or more specifically community power. Together we can make a difference and we have already made a difference in many communities across the world. We as a company have demonstrated that with the assistance of government departments, and people like you we can reduce the amount of graffiti in your area. SoSafe often assists local government departments (councils, municipalities, correctional services, etc..) in establishing frameworks for graffiti abatement programs, volunteer days and other community events to show that you can act locally and make a difference.

Contact “SoSafe Community Programs” for further information how we can assist in your graffiti removal program.

Why have a Community Graffiti Project?

Graffiti has been an issue for many years, defacing almost every surface imaginable from buildings to homes, playgrounds to bus shelters. Nowhere is immune. The negative impact of graffiti should not be underestimated. Whole neighborhoods feel the demoralising effect as their area is daubed in unsightly graffiti and clean up is costly. “The appearance of a community is a key feature in encouraging social and economic activity and in identifying it as a desirable place to live, work and do business in.” Minister for the Environment, Republic of Ireland. Mr. J.Gormley

Community Projects are;

  • Cost effective.
  • Have the potential to offer significant savings for Communities and Councils using the service.
  • Projects have a positive and visible benefit for communities.

  • To raise awareness of good graffiti removal methods.
  • To support non-government and community run facilities in repairing damage caused by graffiti.

Keep Australia Beautiful NSW and local councils will identify key graffiti vandalism sites; so volunteers, businesses, individuals, community groups, schools and just about anyone who would like to donate their time will be assigned to a site closest to them.  All sites will have a site coordinator who will brief volunteers on the specific site activites and risks/hazards.  The appropriate personal protection equipment and refreshments will be available at each site.

Definition

Graffiti refers to the act of marking property with writing, symbols or graphics and is illegal when produced without consent. There are various types of graffiti include tagging, political graffiti and urban art. Each type of graffiti has distinctive features and motives for creation can include peer status, notoriety and political protest. Aside from property damage costs, the presence of graffiti can negatively impact on feelings of security and safety in the community and can indicate a decline in the quality of public space within a community, resulting in more serious crimes being committed. Substantial costs for graffiti clean-up and prevention are also incurred by local and state governments, business and private property owners. Referencing: Australian Institute of Criminology
